OXO-BIODEGRADABLE RESCUES MERMAIDSBio Degradable Mermaids

These beautiful "mermaids" were demonstrating in London outside the conference held by the British Plastics Federation on Biodegradable Plastics. They are members of “Surfers against Sewage” protesting about the rising tide of plastic waste polluting the beaches and oceans of the world, which can float around the oceans for hundreds of years..

The OPA Chairman, Michael Stephen, explained that oxo-biodegradable additive makes plastic degrade on land or in the sea in a very short time, leaving no harmful residues. So, no longer will mermaids have to swim in plastic waste.

The additive is put into the molten plastic at the manufacturing stage, and costs little or no more than ordinary plastic. If collected it can be recycled or composted in-vessel, but if not collected it will not accumulate in the environment.
