Performance Area: Catalysis and Polymerization 2000 to 2002
(Catalysis and Polymerization Manager)
- Development of proprietary catalysts for the PP and PE industrial plants, both in laboratory and pilot plant scales;
- Invention of a proprietary catalyst with excellent processing characteristics in gas phase plants, providing excellent comonomer distribution and showing high activity (laboratory and pilot plant scales);
- Improvement of product quality of the polyethylene Spherilene plant, through modifications in the catalyst and in the polymerization process;
- Conception and implantation of a catalyst pilot plant;
- Significant up-grade of the catalysis and polymerization laboratories, enabling them to the development of catalysts for the industrial Braskem plants.
Performance Area: Polymer Science 1988 to 1999 (Polymer Science Manager from 1997 to 1999)
- Characterization of structure, morphology and physical and chemical properties of polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC and their copolymers, composites and blends;
- Development of special resins, through physical and chemical modifications of conventional resins;
- Participation as team member in the development of high cristallinity polypropylene (HCPP) and of PP/EPR high performance blends, as well as polypropylene grafted with maleic anhydride, acrylic acid, styrene, vinyl-silane and other monomers.
- Implantation of several laboratories of the Research and Development Center of the OPP company: FTIR Spectroscopy; GPC; Fractionation; Viscometry and Solution Properties; Rheometry and Mechanical Properties; Thermal Analysis; and Microscopy.

Specialist Researcher Performance Area: Development of Resins, Varnishes and Paints
Development of the following products to the market:
- Styrene-acrylic copolymer for road traffic paints;
- Acrylic copolymers for ship’s antifouling coatings;
- Hidroxifuncional acrylic copolymer, curable by an aminic agent, for automotive painting;
- Acrylic copolymer of wide spectrum of compatibility, for universal pigment grinding vehicles;
- Rheological additives from acrylic origin;
- Acrilamide-funcional acrylic copolymer, for refrigerators and freezers coatings;
- Epoxi ester resins for curing agents of coatings for refrigerators, freezers and internal metallic parts of automobiles;
- Systems of melamine- and urea-formaldehyde resins, for applications in the two items previously mentioned, and higher solid coatings;
- Epoxi-amine adduct for rust converter primer, tanning based, including primer formulation, and for automotive primer of cationic electrodeposition;
- Inorganic solution for the preservation of woods, poles, stakes, sleepers, etc.;
- Autooxidative catalysts systems for air-drying and oven-air-drying coatings;
- Thixotropic alkyd resin for buildings and structures coatings, containing poliamide resin;
- Additivation for very resistant exterior varnishes.
- Additionally, a wide bibliographic study on water-soluble and emulsifiable alkyd resins was carried out.
OTHER PERSONAL EXPERIENCES:
- Professor at the graduation and specialization levels in the universities PUC-RS, ULBRA and UFRGS;
- Participation on 30 boards of examiners of master and doctorate works at the universities PUC-RS, ULBRA and UFRGS (state Rio Grande do Sul), and at the universities Unicamp and São Carlos Federal (state São Paulo);
- Accomplishment of 25 publications, being 18 national and 7 international ones.
- Participation in 7 patents, being 3 related to catalysts for polypropylene and polyethylenes, 3 related the polypropylene irradiation and 1 related to evaluation of biodegradable plastics.

- 1980 - Graduation in Chemical Engineering, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre;
- 1984 - Master Degree in Metallurgic Engineering, area of concentration Materials Science - Polymers ("rubber materials"), attended partially at the School of Engineering of the UFRGS, and partially (13 months) at the Institute of Macromolecules of the Albert-Ludwig University, Freiburg, Germany;
- 1996 - Doctor Degree in Materials Science at the Materials Science Post-graduation Program of the UFRGS (Physics and Chemistry Institutes and School of Engineering), part of the work being carried out at the R&D Center of the Basell Company, Ferrara, Italy (3 months) ("plastic materials");
- 1999 - MBA Degree in Enterprise Management, at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, Rio de Janeiro - Porto Alegre;
- 2004 - present - Doctorate in Soil Science at the College of Agronomy of the UFRGS.
